The worry feels uncontrollable and is often accompanied by physical symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Common symptoms:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Persistent worry that is hard to stop or control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feeling restless, keyed up, or on edge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Muscle tension, especially in the neck, shoulders, and jaw<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty concentrating \u2014 your mind goes blank<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleep problems \u2014 difficulty falling or staying asleep<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fatigue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irritability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GAD is particularly common among expats who face ongoing uncertainty about their life in Japan \u2014 visa status, career prospects, relationships, and whether they will stay or leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Symptoms appear within three months of the stressor and involve excessive worry, nervousness, and difficulty coping that is out of proportion to the situation. These are first-line medications for most anxiety disorders. They take 2 to 4 weeks to reach full effect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SNRIs (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors):<\/strong> Such as duloxetine (Cymbalta) and venlafaxine (Effexor).
